AMMAN —Al Ghad— Civil Society development specialists and experts convened on a forum organised by the Nissan Centre for Political and Parliamentary Development recently, in Jordan, to address systematic practices and measures placed by the government to pressure the civil society sector and limit its growth, indicating the government’s fear of the civil society and NGOs sector, especially entities operating in the spheres of public policy, political development, and human rights; citing 35 per cent of total funding applications submitted in 2016 have been revoked.

Several papers were presented in the forum, reinforcing the importance of the sector in spite of deliberate government practices to hinder and suffocate civil sector organisations, facing most resistance by the conservative current, even though this sector pillars an important foundation for the state and society.
