AMMAN —Al Ghad— Director of the Syrian refugee camp affairs department, Gen Jihad Matar, stated in an interview with “Al Ghad” that there are thousands of unaccompanied children among Syrian refugees in Jordan, and that joint containment efforts are underway with respective international and UN organisations, with some of the children having been enrolled in the Syrian family adoption programme to ensure their safety and safeguard them from abuse, underlining that camps include comprehensive care centres designated to serving children.

Additionally, Gen Matar, explained that the Department is facing several difficult challenges, chief among them are documents forgery, which is widespread in camps, as well as underage marriage, which as well is generally popular in Syrian refugee communities in Jordan.
