RAMALLAH — Israeli authorities early Thursday returned the body of the slain Palestinian Baha'a Elayyan, allowing his family to bury him 325 days after his death.

Elayyan, a 22-year-old resident of the East Jerusalem neighbourhood of Jabal al-Mukabbir, was laid to rest, after being held in Israeli freezers for 11 months, at the al-Mujahidin cemetery near the Old City of Jerusalem, in accordance with stipulations from Israeli police.

Palestinian Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs attorney, Mohammed Mahmoud, said in a statement that Israeli forces were heavily deployed in the area ahead of the funeral, as attendees were searched many times at checkpoints and their phones confiscated before they enter the cemetery.
