Jordan to Host 3rd UfM Ministerial Convention

AMMAN — The third Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) Ministerial Meeting on Employment and Labour is scheduled to held in the Dead Sea on 26 of September, a statement by the Ministry of Labour Wednesday said.

The meeting, which will be held under the patronage of Minister of Labour Ali Ghazawi, will bring together 43 Arab labour ministers and officials in charge of employment and labour.

Discussions during the meeting will address challenges facing labour markets in Europe and the Mediterranean basin countries, study and the adopt successful initiatives, and seek to agree on procedures to effectively implement these initiatives, the statement added.

The meeting will also discuss current challenges facing labour markets in the region in order to create decent job opportunities mainly for young people.

The upcoming conference is an important opportunity for all participants to jointly address the challenges and exchange views of employment, unemployment, which represent major obstacles that threaten the stability and security of states, their peoples and societies without exception.

The Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) is an intergovernmental organization that was created on 13 July 2008 with the aim of promoting stability and prosperity throughout the Mediterranean region.

The union includes 43 countries from Europe and the Mediterranean Basin, 28 of which are member states of the European Union, while 15 represent Mediterranean partner countries from North Africa, the Middle East and Southeast Europe.
