Net Public Debt in 2016 Reaches JOD650.4m; Total Up to JOD23.4b

AMMAN —Al Ghad— The net sum of loans facilitated through government bonds issued by the Central Bank of Jordan (CBJ) until September 7th, 2016, and incurred for the duration, has reached a net total of JOD650.4 million.

So far, JOD3.2 billion have been issued out in bonds by the Central Bank, with JOD2.4 billion amortised, according to data published on CBJ’s website.

The Central Bank of Jordan issued 10-year JOD50 million bonds at a 37 per cent coverage and an interest rate of 6.09 per cent, which is a first in Jordan’s history.

According to Ministry of Finance data, net public debt has increased 2.8 per cent in total to JOD23.4 billion, in 2016; by JOD650.4 million, from 2015’s closing figures.

The increase is scheduled to fund public budget deficits and guaranteed loans to the National Electricity Company and the Water Authority.
