Industrial Production Levels and Prices Dip in 7 Months

AMMAN —Al Ghad— The general industrial production index for the first 7 months of the current year 2016 dipped 4 per cent, in addition to a 10.2 per cent drop in prices, compared to data for the same period in 2015, as shown in the Public Statistics Department’s monthly report on industrial production.

The report also underlines the decline is related to drops in Transformative Industries by 3.2 per cent; which comprise 86 per cent, roughly, of total industrial production, as well as in Extractive Industries, declining by 15.1 per cent, which in turn comprise 8.2 per cent, as opposed to the increase in electrical energy production by 2.8 per cent, at a sum of 5.8 percent of total industrial activity in Jordan.

However, in detail, the report highlights that the indices for industrial production in July have increased 0.7 per cent, compared to the month before, due to, respectively, a 16.5 per cent increase in extractive industrial activity and a 6.7 per cent increase electricity production.

In July as well, transformative activities dropped 1.1 per cent.

Compared to July 2016, indices show a 1.6 per cent increase in industrial production.
