GAZA/RAMALLAH — Israeli occupation early Sunday imposed a full two-day closure on the West Bank and Gaza Strip on the occasion of the "Simhat Torah" holiday. Military and special units early Sunday, raided a number of Palestinian houses in the towns of Silwan and Issawiyeh, Shu'fat Camp and Jabel Al Mukaber in the occupied city of Jerusalem, arresting 19 Palestinians.

The Palestinian Prisoner Club said in a statement that the arrest campaign aims to prevent Palestinians from safeguarding Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.

According to the Israeli radio, the closure came into effect Saturday midnight and will be lifted Tuesday dawn.

During this period, all crossings to Gaza will also be closed, and Israeli authorities will only allow Palestinians to use the crossings in "exceptional and humanitarian" cases, the radio said.

The radio explained that Palestinians must get an approval of the office of the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories in order to be able to pass the closed crossings.
