AMMAN — The Royal Scientific Society (RSS) and the US University of California, Berkeley (UCB), on Saturday signed a cooperation agreement to launch programs and activities that promote scholarships within joint activities in scientific research, guidance and exchange of faculty and funding.

During the signing ceremony, which was attended by the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Adel Tweissi, RSS President HRH Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan, said the agreement will serve as a framework deal for both sides to exchange technical expertise.

She added that the partnership will be the beginning to research initiatives, and also serves as a cornerstone for an organic metals laboratory at the RSS in order to help it become one of Berkeley's international scientific centres.

During a tour in the King Abdullah II Faculty of Engineering at the Princess Sumaya University for Technology, the University of Berkeley's delegation was briefed on laboratories of projects that were set up by professors and students, such as the "Drone" project, which was introduced by the Dean of King Abdullah II Faculty of Engineering, Dr Belal Sababha.

Chemistry professor at the University of Berkeley, Dr Omar Yaghi, praised the research and technical level at the RSS and its support for the entrepreneurship in universities and turn businesses into projects that meet the labour market's needs.
