‘Stats’:13% of Married Women in Jordan Wed Underage

AMMAN —Al Ghad— As the International Children Day approaches, on the 20th of November, the Department of General Statistics stated that 13.2 per cent of married women in Jordan have been wed before having turned 18 years old, the universal age of adulthood, noting that the population of Jordanian you under the age of 18 forms almost 40 per cent of the Kingdom’s total demographic

Additionally, the Department also points to underage marriage being one of the major reasons why many young girls are deprived of their rights; some even endangered, and denied education.
