AMMAN — Interior Minister Salamah Hammad on Monday, met with Singapore's Law and Home Affairs Minister K Shanmugam and the accompanying delegation, currently on a visit to the Kingdom.

Talks during the meeting dealt with cooperation between the two countries in the political and security fields, as well as economic and security pressures facing the Kingdom due to the current situation in the region.

Hammad said the current conditions in a number of neighbouring countries is placing an increasing pressure on the security system, noting that the army and security agencies shoulder the responsibility of protecting the Kingdom's borders to prevent smuggling.

He also spoke about Jordan's strategic plans and programs to counter terrorism and extremism, highlighting the need for comprehensive programs and strategies for cooperation and coordination among countries to fight terrorism, extremisms and crimes through the exchange of data, visits and training programs.

During the meeting, the two ministers also discussed the Syrian crisis and its security, political and humanitarian repercussions on the region, in addition to the flow of Syrian refugees into the Kingdom.

The Singaporean minister praised efforts of His Majesty King Abdullah II to enhance democracy and achieve political and economic reforms.
