AMMAN — Speaker of the Parliament House of Representatives, Atef Tarawneh, said that Jordan declared war on terrorism in an early stage, adding that His Majesty King Abdullah II affirmed that, during his speech before the European Parliament.

At a meeting with a delegation representing the European Parliament led by Head of the Foreign Affairs Committee Almar Brook, Tarawneh said that Jordan has the experience in fighting terrorism and dealing with refugees. We are fully aware that the war on terrorism is not fought by one state, but rather by the whole world," he said.

Tarawneh said that the reason which prompts youth from the region to join terror organizations like Daesh, is the failure to reach a just and permanent solution to the Palestinian issue, and provide job opportunities for the large number of youths.

The speaker highlighted the need for concerted international efforts to fight all forms of terrorism, noting that the next stage in fighting terrorism is not military but ideological.

He also thanked the European states for their support to Jordan in addressing the refugee’s issue.

Tarawneh stressed the importance of boosting relations between Jordan and the EU, mainly in the economic and parliamentary fields.

Head of the European Parliament praised Jordan's role under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II towards regional issues as well as fighting terrorism.
