New Unemployment Calculations to Include Non-Jordanians

AMMAN —AlGhad— the Department of General Statistics announced a bundle of newly devised methodologies for demographic and economic calculations in Jordan, chief of which were the new Poverty and Unemployment Rate calculation methods, the latter expected to include non-Jordanian residents in Jordan, in accordance to International criteria.

The Q3-2016 Unemployment rate stands at 15.8 per cent, the highest since 2005’s 16.6 per cent.

A new census, the Department stated, is expected to initiate in February, to calculate the new Unemployment Rates, reiterating that many segments of the non-Jordanian components comprise an indispensable part of the new and more accurate poverty rate calculation method.

Notably, Jordan hosts 2.9 million non-Jordanians, including 1.2 Syrians and 636.2 thousand Egyptians.
