Court to Look into 12 Cases of Online Abuse

AMMAN — The Court of State Security (SSC), referred 12 cases of online abuse on Monday to the Amman Prosecutor General’s office to look into the 12 people charged with directing hate speech at Jordanian victims of Istanbul New Year's terrorist attack and their families.

Amman Prosecutor General, Abdullah Abu Ghanam, started judicial investigation of the case, which belongs to the judiciary system.

A judicial source told Petra that offences against the victims include, libel, insult and slander to Jordanian victims and families of the terror attack.

Following online abusive comments, investigators traced several social media accounts and detained their owners for their disgraceful and abusive online comments directed at victims and their families, in violation of Article 11 of the Cyber Crimes Law, Petra reported earlier.

Two Jordanians died and six were injured in Istanbul’s New Year's attack , after a gunman opened fire on the crowd, killing at least 39 people and injuring dozens more.
