AMMAN — Minister of Water and Irrigation Hazem Al Nasser said Saturday that the ministry had accomplished technical, engineering and financial procedures and awarded tenders to launch water and sanitation projects in the southern Maan Governorate.

He said the new projects will be carried out promptly at a total cost of JOD4.6 million that will be financed by a Saudi and Kuwaiti grant and a grant by the French International Development Agency to improve the water network and provide better sanitation services in all areas.

The projects, he pointed out, are in response to the government's efforts to ensure that such services reach the Kingdom's various regions and meet the citizens' demands for better water supplies and sanitation services.

Nasser said the government attached great importance to upgrading services in Maan to face the growing demand posed by Syrian refugees and the pressure they placed on water and energy, and address climate change affecting the Kingdom.

Among the ventures, he said, is construction of new reservoirs and water mains and installation and renovation of pumps in various areas in the southern region.
