AMMAN — Jordan's exports of sheep to Arab Gulf markets recorded a major spike in January, surging by 35 per cent, and reviving hope to support this industry and improve the living standards of local breeders, according to Minister of Agriculture, Khalid Khaled Huneifat.

The minister's announcement came on the side-lines of a visit to the north-eastern governorate of Mafraq, where he met with farmers and breeders and spoke with them about a number of issues concerning the agriculture and livestock sectors.

He said more than 25 thousand heads of sheep were exported from Mafraq to Arab Gulf markets, compared to 18 thousand heads in the same period of last year, noting that the improvement in the volume of exports will help in reducing production costs.
