AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah II on Wednesday received Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukri, who handed him an invitation from President Abdul Fattah el-Sisi to pay an official visit to Cairo.

During the meeting, held at the Al Husianiah Palace, King Abdullah said the Jordanian-Egyptian relations are solid and expressed eagerness to advance them at various levels.

The King also commended economic cooperation between the two countries and the positive progress it has achieved, particularly after the joint Jordanian-Egyptian higher committee convened its meeting in Cairo last year.

King Abdullah also underlined the importance of the committee's next meeting in Amman later this year to expand cooperation between the two countries.

The meeting also tackled the upcoming Arab Summit meeting in Amman, which comes during extraordinary challenges witnessed by the Arab nation and the importance of coordinating stances towards different issues.

Further, the meeting discussed a recent visit paid by the King to Washington, besides the latest regional developments, including Syria, Iraq Libya and Yemen.

The peace process and Jerusalem figured high during the meeting, with King Abdullah stressing the need to revive peace talks between the Palestinians and Israelis based on the two-state solution and international legitimacy resolutions.

King Abdullah also reiterated the importance of preserving the status quo in Jerusalem.

The Egyptian minister emphasized the importance of developing Egyptian-Jordanian ties to the benefit of both countries.

He also expressed his country's appreciation for Jordan's supportive stances of Egypt's efforts of addressing challenges and terrorism.
