AMMAN —AlGhad—A government source informed AlGhad yesterday, Tuesday, that the underway bundle of tax amendments on some telecommunications services is expected within a few days, part of an overall government endeavour to increase local revenues by JOD450 million.

So far, the government is looking into increasing sales taxes for internet services domestically from 8 to 16 per cent.

The second possible decisions include raising the special tax rate on voice calls from 24 to 26 per cent, in addition to the 16 per cent sales tax the government collects, which raises the total tax on voice calls services from 44 to 46 per cent.

Not least, the government is also considering imposing a fee of JOD3.00 on every new cellular subscription.

All in all, these three options are estimated to bring in over JOD35 million annually for the Treasury.

The source, who preferred anonymity, said that the government will most probably pass three decisions which include price hikes, tax increases, and fees, to be imposed on internet and voice communication services, instead of the previous propositions to impose an additional monthly fee of JOD1.00 on every cellular subscription and another JOD2.00 subscription fee for all call services, like WhatsApp and Facebook.
