UNDP Organizes Workshop on Projects’ Proposal Writing

AMMAN — The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in collaboration with the Petra Development Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA), conducted a two-day training workshop for community-based organizations on "Proposal writing" in Wadi Musa in southern Jordan.

The workshop was organized through UNDP’s Small Grants Programme (SGP) and the Mainstreaming Biodiversity Conservation in Tourism Sector Development in Jordan (BITS) projects.

With more than 30 representatives from 15 local Community Based Organizations (CBOs) in addition to representatives from PDTRA, the training workshop, funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF), aimed at building the participants’ capacities on proposals writing and introducing the project’s cycle, proposals’ key components including the monitoring and evaluation plan, description of project activities, Implementation Plan and Time-frame and project budget.

PDTRA Chief of Commissioners, Muhammad Al-Nawafleh, said the workshop was a result of the outstanding partnership between the authority and UNDP. He stressed on the importance of the workshop in enhancing the local CBOs request and need to enhance skills especially in the proposal writing which will help them to obtain more funding for their projects and initiatives.

Head of the Environment and Climate Change Portfolio in UNDP, Nedal Oran, said that this workshop is one of many workshops targeting CBOs throughout Jordan, which aims at training the CBOs and improve their capacities and skills in preparation for the SGP coming call for proposals and in alignment with the country program strategy of SGP Sixth Operational Phase (OP6).

He also added that till today, GEF SGP Jordan contributed in supporting 210 projects with a total of USD7 million in addition to three times that amount from national contributions.
