AMMAN — Minister of State for Media Affairs and Communications, Mohammed Momani, said on Friday that the UN is agreed on the importance of the Jordan’s role in regional and international issues, thanks to its credibility and international appreciation and respect.

Addressing the opening session of King's Academy Model United Nations (KAMUN) conference, which is held in Amman with the participation of 400 students from Jordan, Palestine and Pakistan, Momani said that Jordan and the UN General Assembly played a key role in preserving security and stability. "Jordan is committed to achieving the noble goals of the UN convention," said the minister, who is also the Government Spokesperson.

Jordan, he added, enjoys strong ties with the UN and its agencies, noting that the Kingdom is exerting huge efforts to solve major regional and international issues, thanks to its expertise in this regard.

Through its UN membership, Jordan is focusing on a number of issues and objectives, mainly the Palestinian issue, which is a top Jordanian priority, Momani said. This issue, the minister affirmed, remains the core of conflict in the region.

In this regard, Minister Momani reiterated Jordan's firm stance, which rejects violence that leads to extremism, while calling for a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian cause.

"Jordan is keen to fight terrorism and managed to impose its viewpoint towards various terrorism-related issues," Momani said, adding that the Kingdom supported a number of key UN resolutions, including Resolution 2,170 on the threat posed by Daesh terrorist group, Resolution 2,178 on extremism that creates a suitable environment for terrorism and Resolution 2,099 to fight terrorism funding.

The minister also spoke about the role played by Jordan to issue other international resolutions.
