AMMAN — Heavy downpour and hailstorms prompted authorities in the southern governorates of Maan and Aqaba to suspend classes for Wednesday, but there have been no reports of flash floods or rain-related incidents anywhere.

The southern region in general, including the port city of Aqaba, has come under the effect of a relatively strong depression that brought heavy rain and hail. Fearing flash floods, authorities in Karak urged citizens to stay away from low-lying areas and valleys.

According to the Jordan Meteorological Department, rain is forecast in most parts of the Kingdom with the possibility of intermittent cloudbursts and lightning. On Thursday and Friday, rainfall is forecast to subside but there is a chance for light showers in the central and northern highlands.

The JMD warned of possible frost formation in the hilly areas and Badia, especially after midnight and in early morning hours. The highs in Amman will reach 15 degrees Celsius, plunging to 6 degrees at night.

In the southern region, except Aqaba, it will be a bit colder with the highs at 12 degrees Celsius sliding to 3 degrees at night.
