AMMAN — Jordan on Saturday announced the execution of 15 death row convicts, including 10 found guilty of terrorism, says Mohammed Momani, state minister for media affairs, and the Amman Attorney General, Judge Ziad Dmour, who told Petra it sends a clear message to anyone "trying to tamper with" the Kingdom's security.

The minister also said that the other five are criminals convicted of major criminal offenses and incest rape, notwithstanding.

The terrorists executed included members of the "Irbid terror cell",  the perpetrator of the attack against the General Intelligence Department (GID) office in Baqaa, in addition to the assassin who killed columnist Nahed Hattar, the bomber who attacked Jordan’s embassy in Baghdad, back in 2003, as well as one convicted terrorist, responsible for the Roman Amphitheatre in Amman, added Momani, the government spokesperson.

"This is the inevitable fate of anyone committing a vicious criminal act", Dmour told Petra in an interview, adding that the execution of "the criminals would achieve prevention and have a positive impact on the families of their victims".

The executions were carried out at Swaqa Correctional and Rehabilitation Centre (SCRC), some 70 kilometres south of Amman.
