AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah II on Tuesday received United Nations Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, for talks on regional developments ahead of the Arab summit which will start tomorrow at the Dead Sea shores.

The meeting, held at the Basman Palace, touched on regional and international efforts to revive the Middle East peace process through launching serious and effective negotiations between the Palestinians and Israelis, based on the two-state solution and the international legitimacy resolutions.

The meeting also tackled the Syrian crisis and the need to find a political solution to the conflict that safeguards the unity of the Arab country and its people.

The King and the UN chief also reviewed the repercussions of the Syrian crisis on Jordan, and the importance that the international community shoulders its responsibility toward refugee host states, including Jordan.

Guterres pointed to the enormous burden Jordan shoulders by hosting a large number of Syrian refugees, which requires that the global community delivers on aid pledges to the Kingdom.

The UN chief will participate in the opening session of the Arab summit.
