MOSCOW —AlGhad— The Russian government and ranking officials warned today, Tuesday, of further incidents involving chemical weapons underway, according to Russian President Vladimir Putin, set to implicate Syrian President Bashar Assad.

In a press conference with Italian President Sergio Mattarella, Putin said that “aggravations” are being schemed across various areas of Syria, including the southern suburbs of Damascus, to set off chemical weapons which may falsely implicate President Assad.

On the recent Khan Sheikhoun chemical ‘attack’, Putin confirmed Russia’s intention to apply for the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) to investigate the incident.

Meanwhile, the Russian Defence Ministry also reiterated that the Syrian regime has no interest in using chemical weapons, and doesn’t even own any, since the Syrian arsenal was disposed.

The Organisation, which oversaw the disposal of Syria’s chemical arsenal in 2013-2016, also confirmed destroying 10-12 chemical storage and production sites within rebel-held territories.

Russia’s Prime Minister, Dmitry Medvedev, also stated that the US strike almost placed the United States on the brink of a military confrontation with Russia.
