Dozens Attack School in Marka, Injuries Reported, Arrests Made

AMMAN —AlGhad— The Association of Jordanian Teachers made a statement today, Wednesday, confirming that an attack on a public school in Marka, carried out by some 50 people, east of Amman, using stones, sticks, and blades, left a number of casualties, including two teachers and the school principal.

The Association said that police and riot forces secured the school, and made four known arrests of people who turned out to be relatives of one of the school’s students.

Apparently, according to the Teachers Association, the student whose relatives attacked the school, had partaken in acts of vandalism, totalling a number of the cars owned by the teachers and numerous school facilities.

The teachers at the school, in protest, called a strike and suspended all classes until further notice.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Education, Dr Omar Razzaz, has personally taken interest in the incident, and has communicated with the Ministry of Interior, according to Ministry Spokesperson, Walid Jallad, to urge the exaction of the strictest legal procedures against the perpetrators of the attack.

Spokesperson Jallad also confirmed that the Ministry will be suing the individuals responsible and involved in the outrageous attack, according to Petra.
