Consumer Prices Up 3.7% in 4 Months

AMMAN —AlGhad— The median price index for consumer products during the first quarter of the year 2017 has increased 3.7 per cent from last year’s official first quarterly indices, according to the fresh figures of the Department of Statistics.

Chief among product and service groups which have seen the most hikes in prices include dried and canned vegetables and legumes, up 19 per cent; transportation, up 14 per cent; entertainment, up 10.1 per cent; tobacco and cigarettes, 9.5 per cent; and rent, up 2.1 per cent.

As for April, 2017, the median price index has gone up 0.02 per cent, compared to March, 2017, and 3.5 per cent compared to April last year, 2016.
