AMMAN —AlGhad— At least 18 women and children have been killed during the first 6 months of the year, 2017, according to a statement by the Sisterhood Is Global Institute/Jordan "Tadamon" today, Monday.

Tadamon stated that no less than 12 women and 6 children, according to media reports, have been killed, compared to 15 women during the same duration in 2016.

Several of those killings were family murders whose victims were women and children.

In June alone, three family murders were reported, resulting in the death of three women and two children, in addition to one attempted murder of three children.

Notably, Tadamon underscores, a significate proportion of these crimes were outright “honour killings”.

More so, the Institute has called for legislative reforms to stop murders from getting away with their crimes against women and children.

Given the standing economic and social circumstance, it is crucial that the state, alongside the civil society, provides extensive and comprehensive social and psychological guidance and support programmes and services to Jordanians throughout the Kingdom, the statement said.
