IEC: 4,426 Runners for Local, Municipal Elections

AMMAN —AlGhad— According to data by the Independent Elections Commission (IEC), 4,426 candidates have enlisted for the Decentralised and Municipal Elections by 10AM today, Tuesday.

So far, 870 candidates have registered for the Provincial Elections, 69 of them females.

Additionally, 464 candidates have signed up to run for the Municipal Office, out of which only 1 female candidate has registered.

As for the Local Councils, 3,092 runners have nominated themselves for seats on the councils throughout the Kingdom, 566 of them females.

The North Jordanian governorate of Irbid saw the highest number of candidates registered so far, at 917, comprising 20.8 per cent of the total candidacy toll.

In Mafraq, 678 candidates have registered, as opposed to only 81 runners in Aqaba.

As for the Male-to-Female ratio, Tafileh cited the highest rate of female candidacy in the overall, at 18.2 per cent.

Irbid too has seen 20.6 per cent female candidacy rate for the local and municipal councils, as compared to only 1 per cent in Aqaba.
