Jordan Export to Syria Down 76% in 5 Years

AMMAN —AlGhad—Jordanian exports to Syria over the last 5 years have dropped 76.4 per cent in total, according to the exportation data by the Department of Statistics, marking a JOD205 million drop since the beginning of the crisis.

In 2011, Jordan exported JOD268.3 million worth of commodities to and through Syria, compared to JOD63.2 million in 2016.

During the first four months of 2017, exports, compared to the first third of 2016, have further dropped 15 per cent, from JOD18.2 million to JOD15.5 million.

According to the government’s statements, the ceasefire in the South West of Syria may have a short-term and limited effect in revitalising trade and export.
