RAMALLAH — Israeli occupation forces shot one Palestinian youth dead early this morning, Sunday, in a village northwest of Ramallah, Israeli radio said, and arrested 16 Palestinians from various West Bank cities, according to a Palestinian source.

The Israeli radio, which reported the news, claimed the young man was shot dead after an attempt to shoot Israeli soldiers as they were trying to arrest him last night, based on intelligence of the Israel's Internal Security Service, Shabak.

The radio revealed that the slain Palestinian was responsible for two shooting attacks on Saturday in the West Bank.

The first incident took place early in the day near the village of Umm Safa, while the other shooting happened later in the day at an Israeli military site in the Ramallah-area village of Nabi Saleh, the radio added.

As for the detainees, The Palestinian Prisoner's Society said in a statement that the occupation forces raided the cities of Hebron, Bethlehem, Ramallah and a number of neighbourhoods in the occupied East Jerusalem.

The Israeli army launches arrest campaigns on a daily basis against dozens of Palestinians in various cities and villages of the West Bank under various pretexts.
