AMMAN —AlGhad— An official source with the Jordan Armed Forces — Arab Army said that the details at hand, in addition to the data available, all indicate that 1st Sgt Maarek Tawayha broke standard protocol and violated a direct order.

It was not self-defence, the source said; he was neither permitted to use lethal force against the US soldiers nor did request permission to open fire.

More so, the source said: he was not under any threat, and he was the one who opened fire, even though the soldiers followed procedure to the letter.

He knew when they left the base, and when they were getting back, he confirmed.

The case built around the incident involving Abu Tayeh, according to the ranking official, is strong, legally speaking, and he was accordingly charged.

Notably, Abu Tayeh was charged with deliberate murder and smearing the Armed Forces reputation, and was found guilty according to the evidence provided.
