AMMAN —AlGhad— As activists amassed in protest in front of Parliament over the Article 308 of the Penal Code, the House of Representatives have decided to annul clause 98, which extends a diluted excuse for crimes committed in anger (crimes of passion), including honour crimes.

The parliamentary session addressed amendments to the penal code, and was attended by the Cabinet and presided by House Speaker Atef Tarawneh.

Meanwhile, activists gathered in front of the House of Representatives building in Abdali, Amman, in a protest organised by rights and women groups of the Civil Society.

Protestors called for the abolition of Article 308 of the penal code.

Activists held up signs condemning the marriage of children, and claimed that the law protects the criminals, the rapists mainly, and not the victims.
