Russian Company ‘Rosatom’ to Back out of Jordan Nuclear Reactor Deal

AMMAN —AlGhad— An informed government source confirmed to AlGhad that the Russian energy company, Rosatom, is considering backing out of the nuclear reactor project in Jordan which was signed in 2015 between the company and the Jordan Atomic Energy Commission (JAEC).

The company has already applied for the request to withdraw, according to the source.

In the meantime, the Commission has engaged the Russian company in negotiations on their withdrawal, as the JAEC considers other proposal by other companies.

Initially, the deal was to construct Jordan’s first atomic reactor worth USD10 billion in the Qasr Amra area.
