AMMAN —AlGhad— The Minister of Transportation, Jamil Mujahid, confirmed to AlGhad, earlier this week, that the government has initially approved 19 applications for Smartphone-based carpooling services and companies, out of 25 domestic and foreign applicants.

The Minister explained that 70 per cent of the Jordanian households have at least one smartphone, and the technology is becoming more popular by the day.

However, Mujahid underlined that initial approval does not mean these companies are officially allowed to operate in Jordan.

Applicants need to conclude the rest of the licencing procedures and meet the requirements for them to operate legally.

Notably, carpooling sector regulations were issued back in May, 2017, and are still under debate and dispute by various carpooling services operating in Jordan.
