RAMALLAH — Israeli occupation troops early Sunday arrested 16 Palestinians in various West Bank cities, according to Palestinian sources, as some 34 extremist settlers the Aqsa Mosque Complex, confirmed the Islamic Awqaf and Aqsa Department.

Director of the Islamic Awqaf Department, Sheikh Azzam Khatib, told Petra's reporter in Ramallah that settlers stormed the holy shrine through the Bab Al-Magharbeh gate.

Khatib underlined they were under heavy protection of Israeli special forces and police.

Elsewhere, the Palestinian Prisoner's Society said in a statement that Israeli soldiers stormed several cities across the West Bank.

Occupation forces arrested 16 Palestinians from the cities of Tulkarem, Hebron, Ramallah, El Beira, Nablus and Bethlehem, under the pretext they were wanted by Israeli authorities.

In the Aqsa Mosque, as extremists settlers provocatively toured the Mosque's yards, Muslim worshippers confront them peacefully, chanting in protest slogans and Takbeer "Allahu Akbar".

The Israeli army launches arrest campaigns on a daily basis against dozens of Palestinians in various cities and villages of the West Bank under various pretexts.
