Gov’t Report: Jordan Prisons Up to Human Rights Standards

AMMAN —AlGhad— A recent government report claims that the environment facilitated for detainees across Jordan’s various prisons and correctional facilities are up to the international human rights standard, in terms of infrastructure, facilities, services provided, treatment, and rights.

According to the report, over 321 thousand visits were facilitated this year, 2017, by the end of August, compared to 269.9 thousand visits in the same duration last year.

In terms of facilities and infrastructure, a water purification facilities is underway, at a cost of JOD500 thousand at the Qafqafa correctional facility.

Moreover, several marital visitation facilities, at a cost of nearly a dozen thousand Jordanian dinars each, were built in a number of facilities and prisons.

At numerous prisons too, central air conditioning systems have been installed and others were fixed and maintained.

The one just installed in Muwaqar-1 cost around JOD120 thousand, whereas the maintenance in Muwaqar-2 cost around JOD25 thousand.
