AMMAN —AlGhad— Energy waste via the core national grid has declined to 1.66 per cent in 2015, according to the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission (EMRC), from 1.81 per cent in 2014.

In the overall, every percentile of waste costs around JOD12-15 million, annually, said Dr Tahrir Qaq, the spokesperson for EMRC.

Meanwhile, energy waste via distribution grids across the Kingdom has also been reduced to 13.03 per cent in 2016, from 14.8 per cent in 2015 and 13.8 per cent in 2014.

Additionally, Qaq explained to AlGhad that the reduction of energy waste is part of the Commission’s plans to address the issue, and bring waste down significantly by 2020.

The Commission is aiming to drive down waste altogether, particularly on the distribution grid, which accounts for the larger chunk of waste.

By 2020, the aim is to bring waste via distribution down to nearly 12 per cent, Mr Qaq confirmed.
