RAMALLAH — The planning and construction committee of the Israeli occupation authority has given the green light for 60 new settler units to be built in the settlement of Neghot, south of Hebron in the southern West Bank, according to Israeli media.

The new construction is added to another 30 housing units in the heart of the Old City of Hebron.

Head of the so-called Hebron Hills Regional Committee, Yochai Damari, said the Neghot settlement is located in a strategic position and that the new building, which had won the approval of the right-wing government, is meant to maintain Jewish presence in the Hebron area.

The stepped up building in settlements, which are illegal under international law, proceeds under a master plan endorsed by the Israeli government two years ago for expansion of existing settlements across the occupied West Bank.
