AMMAN —AlGhad— Domestic spending on overseas and outbound travel and tourism has increased by 8 per cent in the first nine months of the year, 2017, according to the Central Bank of Jordan (CBJ), from JOD726 million in September 2016 to JOD785.1 million.

This includes national expenditures on travelling for the purposes of tourism, education, medical treatment, and a variety of other intents, according to the CBJ’s bulletin.

The increase in travelling expenditures is due to the increase of Jordanians travelling overseas by nearly 5.5 per cent, as nearly 2.371 million Jordanians have travelled abroad in 2017.

In 2016, some 2.246 million Jordanians travelled overseas, over the same duration.

Overall, Jordanians’ spending on outbound travel has increased by nearly 10 per cent in 5 years, from JOD811.9 million in 2012 to JOD892.9 per cent in 2016.
