Unemployment Up to 18.5% in Q3-2017

AMMAN —AlGhad— The rate of unemployment in Jordan has increased in the third quarter of the current year, Q3-2017, to 18.5 per cent according to the Department of General Statistics’ quarterly report today, Tuesday.

Unemployment among males stood at 15.4 per cent, compared to 30 per cent among females for the same duration.

The rate of unemployment among university degree bearers over the total workforce of the same education level stood at 23.2 per cent.

According to the report, at least 55 per cent of the unemployed workforce are certificate-bearers, with a high school certificate or higher.

In terms of gender and education, unemployment among bachelor degree holders now stands at 26.7-to-67.7 per cent for male and female degree holders, respectively.

The highest unemployment rates in terms of age distribution stand at 41.5 and 38.2 among youths aged 15-19 and 20-24, respectively.

As for the geographic distribution of unemployment, the highest rate was cited in Tafileh, south of Jordan, at 41.5 per cent, and the lowest in Aqaba, at 10.7 per cent.
