AMMAN —AlGhad— In a press statement today, Monday, Chairman of the Contractors Association Wael Touqan uncovered that the government has failed to meet its due financial liabilities, estimated at more than JOD100 million.

Touqan demanded that the government pays the contractors what they’re owed, else they will have to cut their domestic workforce loose.

The delays in payment, Touqan warned, will cause many contractors to lose credit lines and miss loan instalments to banks, merchants and suppliers as well, not only employees.

Many of them will face charges, detainment and property seizures, he said.

Should the delays continue, and the contractors cut workers loose, a significant number of Jordanians will be out of work, adding further to the unemployment crisis.
