AMMAN — The Lower House of Parliament decided on Tuesday to hold a monitoring session next Sunday to discuss the government’s measures to hike tax on goods, services and drugs.

In today’s session, presided by the Speaker of the House, Atef Tarawneh, and attended by Prime Minister, Hani Al-Mulki, and the cabinet ministers, the MPs passed a bill on the Jordanian Universities' Law.

The act aims at fostering independence of the higher education institutions (HEIs) and their various councils to empower them carry out their duties and responsibilities within the general framework of higher education policies.

It also eyes at enhancing quality of this key sector's outcomes, regulating HEIs' investments, overhauling their instruction methods and bolstering competitiveness.
