AMMAN —AlGhad— The government issued directives today, Saturday, denying more than ten thousand day labourers at the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) the chance of steady-pay employment, after Prime Minister Dr Hani Mulqi sanctioned the employment of 1,000 day-labourers in 2018.

Informed sources with the Municipality explained to AlGhad that the government’s decision entailed the employment of all day-labourers contracted prior to February 6th, 2013. They amount to nearly 4,500 people.

The decision, according to the sources, was taken to resolve a dispute between GAM and the Civil Service Bureau on Municipality employments.

Notably, the Municipality is in charge of employment.

However, according to the Bureau, new employments in the public sector should go through the “proper” Bureau channels, and there are 650 new scheduled employments.

These employments would interfere with the Municipality’s, as they include engineers, doctors, vegetarians, land surveyors and other recruitments.
