Consumer Price Index Up 3.3% in 2018

AMMAN — The Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose during the first two months of this year by 3.3 per cent compared to the same period last year, according to the Department of Statistics (DoS).

The figure was the outcome of an increase in the prices of some commodity groups. Among the main groups behind this hike were transport that rose by 8 per cent, tobacco and cigarettes by 17 per cent, cereals by 12 per cent, rentals by 3 per cent, and fuel by 5 per cent.

The most prominent commodity groups whose prices have declined are dry and canned legumes by 14 per cent, dairy products and table eggs by 3 per cent, fruit and nuts by 1 percent, and garments by 0.1 per cent.
