AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah on Sunday received a delegation from the US House of Representatives, headed by Nancy Pelosi, head of the Democratic Party's Bloc, for a discussion on Jordan-US cooperation and strategic partnership and regional and international issues.

During the meeting, King Abdullah expressed Jordan's appreciation for the support provided by the United States and the role of the US Congress in this regard to help the Kingdom address challenges arising from regional crises and to enable it to implement development programs. His Majesty referred to a memorandum of understanding the two countries have recently signed for cooperation in the economic and military fields in the next five years.

King Abdullah emphasized the importance of achieving a just and comprehensive peace in the region, underlining the need to intensify regional and international efforts to re-launch negotiations between the Palestinians and Israelis on the basis of the two-state solution, leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital. His Majesty highlighted the role the US can play in this regard.

The King noted the Kingdom's efforts to protect and care for Muslim and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, stemming from the Hashemite Custodianship over Jerusalem's Holy Sites.

During the meeting, held over a luncheon, the King and the US lawmakers tackled Middle East challenges and crises, and the efforts to reach political solutions to them, in addition to the war on terror within a holistic approach.

The head and members of the delegation expressed appreciation for Jordan's pivotal role, under the leadership of His Majesty the King, to bring about peace and enhance security and stability in the region, valuing the efforts exerted by the Kingdom to shoulder the burdens of the Syrian refugee crisis.

They also said the US Congress is keen to stand by Jordan and provide all forms of support to the Kingdom in various fields.
