AQABA —AlGhad— Tourism and Economic Affairs Commissioner with the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) Sharhabeel Madi told Petra today, Tuesday, that the Aqaba port will receive up to 14 cruise ships in April, carrying thousands of European tourists.

Three had already arrived over the past two days, he said.

Aqaba witnesses an increase in the number of Arab and European tourists, mainly in the month of April of each year, he noted.

But figures indicate inbound tourism in Aqaba has nearly doubled since last year, Madi highlighted, due mostly to the authority’s promotion efforts.

Jordan’s security and stability, of course, plays a crucial role in tourism growth, according to the Commissioner.

He also said Jordan’s “packaging” of the golden triangle; Aqaba, Petra and Wadi Rum, has proven a great asset for the sector.
