Female Youth Applies for Sex-Change Operation

AMMAN —AlGhad— An Arab foreigner in Jordan has applied to the Ministry of Health for approval to undergo a sex-change procedure after years of hormonal treatment.

The case of the young female, in her twenties, is currently under review by a ministerial committee, an informed source with the Ministry confirmed to AlGhad.

According to the source, the operation with cost around seven thousand dinars, and it is the first time the Ministry has had to address such a case.

On the committee are several medical and legal specialists, as well as representatives of the Iftaa Department and other parties the source did not specify.

Notably, Jordanian hospitals have conducted such procedures before, but citizens and residents of the country usually undergo sex-change operations abroad.

The young woman has provided numerous medical reports that she’s suffering from gender identity disorders (gender dysphoria).

Her case shows biological imbalances that have caused the disorder.

In this case, the law allows for sex-change procedures, the source has confirmed, pending the committee’s decision.
