AMMAN —AlGhad— Prime Minister Dr Omar Razzaz decided to officially retract the controversial income tax law amendments today, Thursday, as his first official order of business as Prime Minister of the new Cabinet.

Razzaz also issued directives to form a special committee to revisit and review amendments to the Civil Service Bureau law.

Notably, the income tax amendments, proposed by resigned premier Hani Mulqi, stirred a nation-wide crisis and protests that lasted for over a week.

The protests lead to the resignation of Mulqi and the assignment of Dr Razzaz as PM-Designate, until the official formation of the government.

Dr Razzaz’s new Cabinet is slated to stand before the House of Representatives in a few days, for the confidence vote, after the Eid al Fitr holiday.
