Inflation Up 5.1% by June 2018

AMMAN —AlGhad— The consumer price index has increased by 5.1 per cent by the end of June 2018, from 119.0 points in June last year to 125.1, driven mainly by the increase in the costs of transportation, by 1.59 per cent, and grain products, by 1.09 per cent.

Over the first six months of the year, H1-2018, the consumer price index has increased by 4.3 per cent, compared to H1-2017, driven mainly by the hike in transportation and grain product prices, at 1.33 and 0.93 per cent.

Compared to May 2018, the inflation rate has increased by 0.1 per cent.

Other consumer goods have seen less but significant price hikes, like tobacco, by 0.62 per cent, fuel and lighting, by 0.41 per cent, rent by 0.4 per cent.

Meanwhile, the price index on consumer goods such as meats and poultry, clothes and shoes, notwithstanding, have declined by 0.21 per cent, 0.06 per cent and 0.01 per cent, respectively.

Month-over-month, the price index of house leasing has seen the greatest hike, by 60.4 per cent, followed by clothes, at 0.14 per cent.
