King stresses need for concerted efforts to improve citizens' standards of living

AMMAN - His Majesty King Abdullah stressed the need for all authorities and concerned parties in the public and private sectors to make concerted efforts to improve the citizens' standards of living and enhance their economic condition, according to a Royal Court statement.

At a meeting at the Al Husseiniya Palace on Thursday with president and members of the Watan Parliamentary Bloc of the Lower House, the King highlighted the important legislative and monitoring role of the Lower House in supporting the Kingdom's comprehensive reform process.

In this context, the King called for institutionalizing the work of the parliamentary blocs to improve performance of the MPs with a clear vision and ideas. He also stressed the need for well studied proposals that would help the government to put in place strategies and define priorities in partnership with the Lower House, the statement said.

His Majesty praised the important amendments made by the House to its Rules of Procedure, and said this would contribute to enhance the performance of the deputies as well as legislative and monitoring process.

At the meeting, which was attended by the prime minister, the Lower House speaker, the Royal Court chief and the director of the King's Office, King Abdullah called for maintaining coordination and consultations between the Parliament and the Government to address current challenges and support the march of development and modernization.

The meeting also tackled the latest developments in the region, mainly efforts to achieve peace as well as arriving at a political solution to the crisis in Syria.

The King said Jordan's stance on various regional issues is clear and strong, adding that the Kingdom is being kept abreast about the current peace talks between the Palestinians and Israelis.

President and members of the bloc lauded the King's openness and his meetings with the Lower House members.

The prime minister on his part said the government was keen to establish true partnership with the Lower House in various fields. (al-Ghad)
