AMMAN (Petra) - Prime Minister Abdallah Ensour discussed on Saturday with the Director General of the Arab Monetary Fund Abdul Rahman Hamidi the important role that the Fund can play in Jordan since the Kingdom is shouldering enormous responsibilities in the wake of the ongoing conflicts in neighboring countries.

During the meeting, Ensour congratulated Hamidi on his recent appointment as Director General of the Arab Monetary Fund. He pointed out that the Fund should consider the political and financial situation that many states, surrounded by others passing through political crises, are currently facing, such as Jordan, to enable them to meet various challenges.

This was all the more true since Jordan is a gateway to the Gulf Arab states, and has to protect its borders, besides the fact that it is hosting a large number of refugees.

The premier said Jordan appreciates the Fund’s contribution towards supporting the Kingdom’s economy through loans it provided to Kingdom, or the ones it is still providing. He said Jordan has plans, is working on projects and has qualified and efficient manpower but suffers from economic challenges.

Hamidi praised the royal vision for economic development, the achievement made in the context of ensuring sustainable development and the efforts of the economic team, headed by the Prime Minister, which has enabled Jordan to overcome the economic crisis, a scenario reflected through indicators of economic achievements. He also pointed to the fact that Fund has big ambitions and will deal in a realistic way to achieve them.

The meeting was attended by Minister of Finance, Dr. Umayya Toukan, and the Governor of Central Bank of Jordan, Dr. Ziad Fariz.
